I thought I would read this book and see what the hype was all about.  I bought this book around May of 2022 when I moved to my new home on the recommendation of a very good friend.  The High 5 Habit by Mel Robbins, taking control of your life with one simple habit.  It is an amazing read.  This author writes about everything that goes through our own minds daily, but she also writes about how she overcomes those pesky pessimistic thoughts that plague our minds every day.  She writes about things that worked for her.  It is a challenge, and it is a habit that needs to be formed.  Feel like giving up and throwing in the towel?  This is a book anyone can relate to.  Mel describes all the thoughts that go through with what the rest of us face.  If you are at a standstill and don’t know which direction to take, this is a book that can jump start your staleness in and with life. I plan on rereading this as I have strayed from the daily routines that need to be established to take back control of “believing in yourself”.  It is an eye opener when you find out that you don’t love yourself and do everything you can not to love yourself.  The book encourages what you can do to change that mindset.

If I had to start my journey all over again with a book that I know about now, it would be this one. “Battlefield of the Mind” by Joyce Meyer. This is a book that I truly wish I knew about growing up.  It was one of the most powerful books I have ever read.  Joyce Meyer talks about it all.  How hard it is to quiet the mind and not let “evil” take over.  This book is not just for Christians or those that are involved with the church.  This book can help anyone that wants to be helped and understand that there are tools out there that can help you with your dark thoughts.  I read a chapter every day once I saw how powerful it was.  There were twenty-five chapters to this book.  I did not miss one day after reading the first chapter.  It has made me more intentional about my thinking, to think about what I think about.  We are living in the information age and the world wants our attention.  The world wants to distract us and bombard us with unnecessary information and drama.  This book has made me aware outside noise deters you from healing.  Words are a powerful tool, and she has used those words effectively with her book. I highly recommend that anyone read this if they are having issues with figuring out what it is that they want or need out of their life.

Can’t Hurt Me – David Goggins
On the New York Times Bestseller in 2020. “What if” … Sometimes I am guilty of reading the last sentence of a book before picking it up to read.
Powerful two words. I could not put this book down. This was a read for work. Weekly manager’s meetings were held and with those meetings, reading books was utilized to improve our management skills. When I started to read this book, it made me realize that it is not only about improving how you manage your team, but it can be applied to your personal life. The book made me realize that once you master your mind, you can defy the odds. The mind is a powerful tool, and it is up to you, no one else, to utilize
your mind. One’s mind has numerous tools. If the person chooses to use the tools and get through this map anyone calls life or work. This book has become my go to when I need to get back on track when I feel that I have wandered from the path that I have chosen for myself. I push this book on someone when they need guidance. David Goggins shared the good, bad, and indifferent. The book made a profound impact on how I want to change what goes on with my life. I don’t think you will be disappointed in this book, and it could be “the one” that changes your life!

A powerful read and a book that will always be a part of my library.  I will have to admit, it was a slow beginning for me, and I almost quit reading the book.  I reached the page that blew my mind “Emotions last 90 seconds, emotions come and go; however, feelings can last a long time!”  I stared at that sentence for a good 3 minutes and my jaw was on the floor.  I always thought that emotions were an unpredictable thing when it is our thoughts that make things more complicated than they need to be.  Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, a Harvard-trained Neuroscientist that specializes in the anatomy of the brain opened my eyes to understanding how emotions rule and a lot of people don’t realize it.

An author that I felt after reading this book appears to be warm, blunt, funny, has flaws and down to earth when she wrote this book.  I absolutely loved it when she uses swear words with her writing.  She did it with such grace, that you could not help but grin.  A book I highly recommend.  She lets you know that it is OKAY to have a plethora of emotions because that is how we are wired.  She gives tools that you can use to manage those overabundances of emotions.  How you handle those emotions with your thought process will allow you to grow.

If you can ride those waves of emotions in those 90 seconds without letting your thought process fuel those emotions, you’re home free…….
